TSB Quarterly Review — Third quarter 2014-15

January 2015

Chair's message

As we enter the new year, I reflect not only on the TSB’s activities of the previous quarter, but on all of 2014 as well—a lot has been accomplished. Each year, January is an opportunity for people and organizations to set goals for the months to come. Here at the TSB, it’s an opportunity for us to renew our commitment to excellence in advancing transportation safety.

The last quarter was busy with the release of our latest Watchlist, which identifies the transportation issues posing the greatest risks to Canadians. Over the last three months, we also announced the launch of an in-depth Safety Issues Investigation (SII) into the risks that persist in air taxi operations across Canada. We released several investigation reports, including one on the 2013 fatal rail accident near Tisdale, Saskatchewan, and one on the November 2013 grounding of a cargo ship in the St. Lawrence Seaway, as well as deployed to numerous accident sites, including to a train derailment near Sept-Îles, Quebec, and to an aviation accident near the North Arm of Great Slave Lake, NWT.

With our professionalism and determination, we will keep pressing for a safer transportation system in the new year. I would like to wish you all the best for a safe and healthy 2015.
